Picture 9I was watching TV last night and happened to flip across a show (never seen or heard of it before) . It had some super thin model in a dress and approx 7 very young girls all lined up standing on the beach. So this thin -very thin- model starts telling these girls about modeling as she undresses to some skimpy bathing suit.

She then tells these 14 year old girls to undress. As they do this without thinking I noticed  the “professional” model is standing rather oddly. Wow! my observation was rather bang on! She then points out that to stand “properly”when having your photo shot you should stick your belly out almost like your torso is not connected to your hip, then stick your booty out and up so that even if you don’t have one it will appear that you do.

I promise this will make you see a correlation in life.

This got me thinking. Who do you chose to model yourself after will play a big part in  the rest of your life – back pain included.

As I observed the show my first perspective is the young girls looking at this super thin model. They believe that she is someone they want to be like. They don’t think twice about what she directs them to do. If she says rip off my clothes in front of a camera then so be it. One of the girls immediately followed direction and was rewarded with a verbal accolade that she is doing this right. But hey who ever thinks about a body brace when someone tells you to disconnect your spine and your brain if it makes you money and other people look up to you! Is this you?

My second perspective is the model. She must have learned this trick from someone else. Who taught her this trick?  A photographer? Another model? Does she posture herself like this all the time? Why does this posture sell? What does it sell? She must feel great because 7 people look up to her and she is on tv.. she MUST know what she is doing. She is teaching others the way to be like her. Look where she is! Is THIS you?

My third perspective is the viewer. For passive entertainment? Why did this program make it through the network and who is watching? Who are they targeting (ps. good tip is to watch the commercials) IS this you?

My fourth perspective is the tv program. What was the purpose of this entire show? To sell something? What are they selling? Have you ever asked yourself these questions while you are passively watching tv? Reading a book? Reading a magazine or even being on the internet? What are you buying? Is this YOU?

Who you chose to observe and take advice from sometimes may not be the right person, they may adjust their “posture” to make it appear that they know better than you. They can only carry that  position for moments at a time. If they positioned them selves like the model in the TV show permanently they would have outrageous pain and fairly quickly be unable to work. YES! I this Sucksess?

When you choose to model yourself after someone- step back and really look at the overall picture. Analyze… is this something real or something that you really want to do? What are they telling you is success?  Are they really a leader or are they just posturing themselves like they are. In reality they are they leading you down the path of osteoporosis so they can sell you some pills to fix the problem they created for you and themselves? Once you turn the TV off there is still that program running in your head.

If you can take a step back and become an observer for yourself and OF others without judgment you will learn that you MUST choose wisely those who lead you. Eventually you will also lead others down the same path like the “professional” model. Who will you lead?

Lets become responsible leaders together by modeling the RIGHT people because we have others that are looking up to us.

Show me that you are a leader  by commenting what you think about being a model of life.
